Shinsung Cole Palmer (22, Chelsea), who was born in 2002, beat Jude Bellingham (21, Real Madrid) and Bukayo Saka (23, Arsenal) to be England's best player in the 2023-24 season.
The English Football Association (FA) officially announced on its website on the 9th (Korea time) that Palmer has been selected as England's male player of the year for the 2023-24 season by fans. The award was decided by a vote of English nationality players who played more than 50 percent of England's adult games from September last year to July this year. It is the first time that Palmer has won the award.
"Farmer made his A-match debut against Malta in November last year at Wembley, England, and played in nine A-match games, including five UEFA Euro 2024 matches. He also scored a great goal against Spain in the final in Berlin in July," the FA said. "His amazing season for the English national team started with his impressive debut season at Chelsea."
Palmer, who left Manchester City to move to Chelsea last season, showed a sensational performance by scoring 22 goals and 11 assists in the 2023-24 English Premier League alone. He was also selected for the English national team and scored a goal in the UEFA Euro 2024 final.
Palmer beat Bellingham and Saka to be the best player selected by England fans. It is the first time in 14 years that a Chelsea player has received an award since Ashley Cole in 2010.
The first winner of the award, which was introduced in 2003, was David Beckham (Manchester United) in 2003.
